Saba Restaurant on Pickett Road in Fairfax offers a focused taste of Yemeni cuisine, bringing a distinct Middle Eastern atmosphere to this suburban setting. It’s a full-service dining spot where the aroma of slow-cooked lamb and spices sets the tone from the moment you step inside. The dining room is warmly lit but could feel a bit more polished, reflecting a straightforward, home-style ambiance that centers the food experience rather than décor.

This restaurant is best suited for those who come knowing they want to explore the rich, nuanced flavors of Yemen. Signature dishes like Lamb Mandi and the Lamb Haneedth showcase tender meats paired with fragrant rice, while lighter menu items such as their hummus with qullaba and fresh Malooj Yemeni bread provide good starters or sides. The maraq soup is especially noted for its mild yet comforting depth—ideal for cooler days or if you’re in need of something easy on the palate. Side dishes, including samosas and various traditional desserts like baklava and basboussa, round out the meal for a thorough introduction to Yemeni dining.

Locals appreciate Saba for its hospitality; staff are attentive and often come with thoughtful recommendations, creating a welcoming feel that makes the space work both for casual dinners and small group gatherings. The pace of service tends to be smooth, making it a convenient option whether you’re settling in for a relaxed weekend meal or popping in for a meaningful lunch.

While the atmosphere leans towards modest and authentic over trendy or upscale, it’s this very focus on the food and genuine hospitality that makes Saba a spot where Yemeni food enthusiasts and those curious about Middle Eastern cuisine find something memorable. Visiting during quieter weekday evenings or weekend afternoons can enhance the experience, offering time to savor the layers of flavor without feeling rushed.

I love this place! It’s one of those places that you remember for the taste and flavour than anything else. :) I love their maraq soup — so mild, yet so flavourful. Perfect for a rainy, wintry day but also great for when you’re feeling a bit under the weather. The soup is soulful. :) Their hummus and baba ghanoush is simply great. The lamb mandi, khabsa, jareesh and fahsa beef are just mind blowing — their flavours are not overpowering but the taste is just homely. The desserts are great too especially the fatah dates and honey and the basboussa. All in all, totally worth it!! :)
